Ho Chi Minh Trail South to North Motorbike Tour 16 days

1 Ho Chi Minh City Arrival N/A

Arrive at Tan Son Nhat airport, welcome by our private Vietnam tour guide and driver and transfer to you hotel for check in. Ho Chi Minh, the most exciting city of Vietnam, a mecca of commerce, also a city with a chequered history and a rich culture, its pagodas, museums, public buildings, parks and boulevards make it one of the most delightful Vietnam Tours and cities to visit in Vietnam. Free time at leisure. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh

2 Ho Chi Minh City – Mui Ne (230km – 6hrs) (B/L)

Morning ride to Phan Thiet /Mui Ne – Once a part of the Cham Kingdom, it’s now a perfect stop for beach holidays, an unremarkable town with a reasonable beach, some decent hotels, and a very good golf course.

In a nice setting with white sand beaches and coconut trees, the beach resort of Phan Thiet is also endowed with amazing spots such as sand dunes, natural lakes and astonishing red canyons. Phan Thiet still has sizeable populations of Cham and Raglai ethnic minority groups. The former are a part of the area’s Cham heritage. Upon arrival, check in at the hotel, free time at leisure. Overnight in Mui Ne.

3 Mui Ne – Da Lat (180km – 6hrs) (B/L)

We continue our great adventure by riding uphill to Da Lat which is known as the city of "Eternal Spring".

Check in on arrival and overnight in Da Lat.

4 Da Lat – Buon Me Thuot (260km – 8hrs) (B/L)

After breakfast, we ride to one of the largest towns in the Central Highlands, Buon Me Thuot – The city offers easy access to the area's many natural attractions, including Yok Don National Park and its rare wildlife, idyllic Lak Lake, several spectacular waterfalls, as well as numerous Ede and M'nong hill tribe villages.

Like most places in the Central Highlands, Buon Me Thuot saw some heavy fighting during the Vietnam War, but these days, it's all about the coffee. With ideal soil and climate conditions, coffee from Buon Ma Thuot is considered by many to be the best in the country.

Upon your arrival, check in and free at leisure. Overnight in Buon Me Thuot.

5 Buon Me Thuot – Kon Tum (240 km – 8hrs) (B/L)

Quite possibly the friendliest city in Vietnam, when people stop you on the street in Kon Tum to ask where you’re from, it’s because they’re actually interested. In the Bahnar villages, discreetly hidden behind trim rows of Vietnamese houses on the town’s outskirts, the kids love to pose for giggly photos and the adults may even invite you into their homes for a chat.

So far Kon Tum remains largely unspoiled and the authorities remain blessedly invisible. There are several sights in the town itself, and this is also a gateway to the historic Ho Chi Minh Trail. Like elsewhere in the highlands, Kon Tum saw its share of combat during the American War.

A major battle between the South and North Vietnamese took place in and around Kon Tum in the spring of 1972, when the area was devastated by hundreds of American B-52 raids. Overnight in Kon Tum

6 Kon Tum – Hoi An (290km – 9hrs) (B/L)

Today, we will have a unique opportunity to ride to the historical Ho Chi Minh Trail through Phuoc Son and famous Lo So pass to Hoi An. While driving over Lo Xo Pass, we make several stops along the way to meet De and Trieng minorities, who live along the Dak Po Ko river. Along the river are many amazing hanging bridges, built by the local people. Lunch will be in Tan Canh. Then we visit a village of Se Dang and passing one of the key towns which once were battle sites of the Vietnam War – Dak To and outpost Charlie.

Check in on arrival and overnight in Hoi An.

7 Hoi An Free Day (B)

Breakfast at hotel, today we will spend your own time to explore small beautiful Hoi An town.

We suggest this day is an easy walk along beautiful ancient streets and enjoy coffee at love, tranquility café shop.

8 Hoi An – Hue (145 km – 5hrs) (B/L)

After breakfast, we ride to Hue with a beautiful climb up to "Hai Van Pass" where you will stop for photos. Continue to Hue - is one of places, which have many cultural heritages.

Up to now, there is no place like Hue remaining a lot of originally historical vestiges as in this ancient Capital City. Upon arrival, check in. In the afternoon, visit the Forbidden Citadel. Overnight in Hue.

9 Hue – Khe Sanh (180km – 6hrs) (B/L)

Today, we leave Hue for Khe Sanh - The site of the most famous siege – and one of the most controversial battles – of the American War, Khe Sanh Combat Base (admission 30,000d; 7am-4.30pm) sits silently on a barren plateau, surrounded by vegetation-covered hills that are often obscured by mist and fog. It is hard to imagine as you stand in this peaceful, verdant land that in early 1968 the bloodiest battle of the war took place here.

About 500 Americans (the official figure of 205 was arrived at by statistical sleight of hand), 10,000 North Vietnamese troops and uncounted civilian bystanders died amid the din of machine guns and the fiery explosions of 1000kg bombs, white-phosphorus shells, napalm, mortars and artillery rounds of all sorts. Overnight in Khe Sanh.

10 Khe Sanh – Dong Hoi – Phong Nha (260km – 8hrs) (B/L)

Leave the war behind, we Ride all the way to Phong Nha - Ke Bang, the biggest and also the most beautiful cave in Vietnam and Indochina and is now a UNESCO World Natural Heritage site. The karst formation of Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park has evolved since the Paleozoic (some 400 million years ago) and so is the oldest major karst area in Asia.

Subject to massive tectonic changes, the park's karst landscape is extremely complex with many geographic features of considerable significance. The vast area, extending to the border of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, contains spectacular formations including 65 km of caves and underground rivers.

11 Phong Nha – Tan Ky (280km – 9hrs) (B/L)

This morning, if time permits, we will do the boat trip to explore Phong Nha Cave then continue to Tan Ky along Ma River. On arrival, check in and free at leisure.

Overnight in Tan Ky.

12 Tan Ky – Mai Chau (290km – 9hrs) (B/L/D)

After breakfast, we continue to Mai Chau which is the heart of a beautiful valley that is a world away from the hustle and bustle of Hanoi. The modern village is an unappealing sprawl, but as you emerge on the rice fields and rural living it is transformed into a real paradise. It’s a stunning area, and most people here are ethnic White Thai who stay in hatched-roof stilted houses on split bamboo floors and will be wonderful experience for you.

Tonight, we will stay in a local family (Thai Ethnic) and enjoy the traditional music and wine "Ruou Can". Overnight in Mai Chau.

13 Mai Chau - Hanoi (150km – 4hrs) (B/L)

Morning free to explore the village then ride all the way to Hanoi to end your unforgettable adventure. Overnight in Hanoi.
